WEEK 9

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES
"Human resources are like natural resources; they’re often buried deep. You have to go looking for them, they’re not just lying around on the surface.” (Ken Robinson)

After reading about the learning styles to teach and realizing that “Students will learn better when using preferences in which they're successful.”,In “Using Learning Styles to Adapt Technology for Higher Education, Terry O'Connor, I recalled I recalled Sir Ken Robinson’s words:
*      We are educating people out of their creativity.”
      *      “Human resources are like natural resources; they’re often buried deep. You have to go looking for them, they’re not just lying around on the surface.”
      *      “Human communities depend upon a diversity of talent.”
                  *      “We make very poor use of our talents.”

In an interview, Bruce Springsteen said:
“I wasn’t quite suited for the educational system. One problem with the way the educational system is set up is that it only recognizes a certain type of intelligence, and it’s incredibly restrictive — very, very restrictive.”

We must be “farmers” who create the conditions under which our students’ skills will flourish promoted by their multiple intelligences.

As we are about to start the meetings to prepare the next school year (it will start in the beginning of September for teachers and in mid-September for the students) I am very enthusiastic about the “systematic, program-oriented approach [which] asks the teacher to go beyond content.” According to this approach the teacher is supposed to organize the course “around a model of learning styles that recommends different types of learning activities at each stage of the learning process.” I usually organize and create materials around themes. However these readings about multiple intelligences enlightened my ideas as far as emphasizing on students develop their skills and how they acquire the content of a lesson.

In Sailing the 5 C’s with Learning Strategies, A Resource Guide for Secondary Foreign Language Educators (NATIONAL CAPITAL LANGUAGE RESOURCE CENTER)we are presented with very interesting activities to promote students’ awareness of how they engage themselves in the learning process and consequently their motivation.
I attended a session at the 26th at APPI Conference in April, 2012.  In the opening session Professor Anna Uhl Chamot, stated that the success of the strategies we build also depends on our motivation. We have to be aware of “the possibilities and opportunities that [we] offer [our] students.”

The conclusion of the course is near. I really enjoyed working with Julio Palma, my peer-reviewing partner. Using the information from his checklist was very helpful. collaboration is very important in today's global society.

As far as my project is concerned, I must say it is not a very ambitious project. I think that we must be sure the activities we develop can be accomplished by the students and don't take long. I didn't have much time as the school year was coming to an end.
